Fall 2010 Denim Trends

Cargos

Cargos gained popularity this summer and will continue through fall. With so many different options you will find a flattering fit that brings utility and femininity together, making them a staple in any fall wardrobe. Pair a fitted top with a slouchy pair, or an oversized sweater with a more tailor-made version.

Skinnies

Different from flared or bootcut jeans, skinnies are designed to draw attention to your curves by offering you a form-fitting yet flattering jean. Perfect for tucking into boots or worn with ballet flats, skinnies can be dressed down with a flowing blouse and flat boots or dressed up with a sequined top and peep toe heels.

Jeggings

Denim jeggings started to gain popularity last fall and are still going strong. Jeggings fit like a legging and can be worn in a variety of ways. Typically made from a denim/spandex blend, the stretchy material allows them to feel super soft and comfortable. Jeggings are often worn with tunics, long sweaters and other tops that hit at mid-thigh.

Wide Leg

The wide leg jean is a universally flattering style. Typically featuring a high waist, this denim trouser nods to generations past by giving off a "retro" yet modern feel. Streamlined 70's inspired styles range from trouser cuts to slim flares. Try pairing them with a fitted or tucked-in top and heels.

Cropped

Cropped jeans are offered in a variety of slim cuts and washes and can be dressed up or down to go from business casual to evening with ease. Their versatility makes them fashion apparel you can wear during any season. This style is great to wear with booties and is often paired with heels and a flirty tank for a dressed-up look that's still laid-back.

Slim Boot Cut

Lightweight and relaxed, this style offers a timeless look that can be worn over and over again. Dark, clean washes rule this season--try wearing them with a wedge or boot and a tailored jacket for a polished, classic look.

Boyfriend Cut

Boyfriend Jeans are cut a bit looser than most jeans so they'll skim your curves rather than clinging to them, allowing you to look effortlessly stylish. Boyfriend jeans are meant to be casual yet feminine, so high heels and a nice designer belt can be worn with them to add a feminine touch to the look.

Artist Spotlight - Handmade Jewelry by Kacey

"Hey Salisbury, I’m Kacey Carlyle, a locally grown artist on showcase at Velvet Pearl. For most of my life I’ve been thinking in color, starting with painting after watching a Bob Ross marathon as a child. Though painting is still my first love, my recent projects have taken me into the worlds of jewelry and candle making. In high school I spent most of my time in the Visual and Performing Arts, which sharpened my skills and prepared me for attendance to St. Louis Community College. I earned an associates degree in Graphic Design and Illustration as well as a better understanding of design overall.  I started my own "junk jewelry" business in 2009 which has become my main creative outlet. I take unused, vintage or broken pieces of jewelry and watches, repurposing them into new, wearable art. I gather my materials from a number of places including flea markets, thrift stores and even family and friends. My goal is to create handmade pieces that reflect your sparkling personality."
